Welcome to my musical world! I play mostly World Music, Jazz, Folk and Metal – you can check my projects out in the menu below.
If you wanna know where it all came from, read on;
I am a musician from Norway, I started playing guitar around the age of 14. First demo was recorded one year later, in 1995. More demos came, and it didn’t take long before the music was picked up and a record deal was signed with a label in The Netherlands.
Back then I was mostly interested in metal, but soon I started exploring other styles of music. After I had finished an education in chemistry and worked a couple of years in The North Sea I decided to dedicate my life to music full time. I applied for the music conservatory to broaden my knowledge.
The same summer I was in a motorcycle accident and crushed the ring finger on my left hand. For me that was in the moment a huge tragedy, and hope was lost for a while. Something in me didn´t give me a choice, to quit never became an option, so I started to build a new technique and way of playing.
One year later I was accepted at the University of Agder and started my studies in music.
I was still struggling with motivation because of pain and difficulties to adapt. Things changed when I heard about Django Reinhardt. This gave life to a well of inspiration and lead to a stream of new musical projects.
In 2003 I joined Green Carnation. Together we toured Europe and USA. Several albums and many concerts later the band was put to an end in 2007, marking it with a live DVD, a spectacular and unique concert several kilometres into the Norwegian mountains. In 2015 the band came together again and are now playing festivals around the world marking the 15-year anniversary for the album “Light of day, Day of darkness”.
From late 2007 to 2011 I joined Sirenia and continued to tour the world with them while working on my own projects.
Like Django Reinhardt, I found my companion in a violinist, Sebastian Gruchot. Together we have explored the style of acoustic hot jazz and formed the duo Gruchot/Krumins.
In 2008 we were invited to Tanzania. Here we produced several concerts together with musicians and dancers from Tanzania and Mozambique. This opened up the musical language, understanding and curiosity even more and inspired me to form the band Nutopia.
When I discovered that so many musical elements I had learned from studying Django´s way of playing, worked so well with establishing contact with musicians from Africa, I also focused my master thesis around world music.
In 2008 I was hired to play at the “African New Year Concert”. It took place in Maputo, Mozambique with an audience of more than 60.000 people witch was later broadcasted on TV in several countries. I was lucky to play a central role in the production and played guitar and other instruments for several major African artists throughout the concert. One of the first concerts with Nutopia was here, together with some amazing musicians from Zanzibar.
Not only musicians where performing, here you can watch a video where I try to improvise some music to Eskil Rønningsbakken´s breath taking performance.
This lead again to more bookings for concerts in South-Africa leading up to The World Cup in 2010. Many trips to Africa lead to many musical meetings that again lead to more inspiration. One of them was when I searched for “Africas Django” and found the amazing guitarist Jimmy Dludlu.
In the following years I focused on producing the first CD for Nutopia “Zabibu” while playing session for other bands like Gazpacho.
In 2015 I joined a Norwegian folk music project called Faulk, you can check it out here
